Your Career - Are You Doing What You Love?
What did you want to be when you were a kid? Did you have a career all picked out? I remember having one of those books that kept track of my progress through school, grade by grade. A lot of you will know what I’m talking about. You mark in your height and weight, your school picture, listed your friends and accomplishments. And then there was a space to write down what you wanted to be when you “grew up”. Whatever that means. That section was called "careers", and there were choices that you could check off. I have a feeling that the girls choices were different from the boys choices. Funny when you think about it, how we predispose genders into predetermined careers. It is almost as if we were being conditioned right from the very beginning to choose what we wanted to do with the rest of our lives and dammit you were stuck with that choice. Did that early exercise in “career planning” actually serve a purpose? I remember my early aspirations of being a policeman, fireman, or astronaut. As the years went on the careers changed of course. I seem to remember putting down something a bit far fetched, like professional athlete, and hearing a wry chuckle from my mom or dad. You know the one. That little laugh that says, “nice idea, but lets get real”. Why do we do that? Why do we steal the dreams of others? Is it because we ourselves have not achieved all that we thought was possible? Because we simply gave up? On one hand we tell children that they can achieve anything they set their minds to, and in the next breath we tell them that only .0000000001 percent of people actually go on to achieve it! So don’t bother in other words. Nice to dream and all but it’s time to buckle down and get serious. Get serious. Why do we have to be so damn serious all the time? Don’t have anything way out there to strive for. Something fantastic. Obviously some people do go on to achieve their wildest ambition, whatever that may be. How did they do it? The articles in this section of the site will include advice to help you get the most out of your current career. We will also look at how to go about changing careers. Perhaps you are interested in a home based business. Maybe you have been thinking about
building your own website.
I am proof that it can be done. Whatever it is, this is the section to find it in. What were, or are you passionate about? It is time to rediscover that passion. Do you have a
fear
of failure? The absolute worst thing you can do is nothing. So what that Michael Jordan was not “successful” with his foray into baseball. At least he tried. What if J.K. Rowling had accepted the word no from the first few publishers that she visited. The world would have been denied some true greatness. There are countless other examples, and they of course do not have to be famous individuals either. Again a lot of this goes back to the choices we make. Sometimes very early on in our lives. But even if you have made certain choices that have led you to where you are now it is never too late to make a new choice. It takes some planning perhaps, but so what, do it. So go right now, get a piece of paper, and start dreaming. Write down what it is that you want to be when you “grow up”. And go for it!!
