What is Feng Shui?

Feng shui has been around for centuries. It is an ancient Chinese practice believed to utilize the Laws of both heaven (astronomy) and earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive Qi (energy). The more modern practice is the special arrangement of furniture and belongings to help achieve balance and positive energy. Have you ever walked into a room and felt that it was too cluttered? Or that the furniture was not arranged in a positive way? If yes, then that room had not been organized according to positive energy principles.

Yin and Yang

The concept of yin and yang describes two opposing and, at the same time, complementary (completing) aspects of any one phenomenon. In all aspects of nature there must be balance. With balance there is order. With order there is positive energy.

There is energy all around us all the time. eng shui is the art of accepting this basic truth and allowing this energy to flow as it naturally should to help achieve a positive balance.

Feng Shui and Minimalist Design

For me, feng shui and minimalist design go together like a hand and glove. Minimalist design is about allowing the room to show itself. Bold, straight lines. Smooth surfaces. Natural colors. Combine this with feng shui decorating and I truly believe that there will be a synergy of positive energy.

Feng Shui Decorating Tips

Here are some tips to help you get started with creating positive energy with your interior decorating.

Minimize clutter You will have to remove all items that do not serve a useful purpose. Donate them or have a yard sale.

Keep the front door area inviting Free of clutter. No shoes or jackets. A water element if possible to help control the flow of positive energy.

Use plants or wind chimes These articles help to soften any sharp corners.

This will constitute a good start with your decorating. Have fun and create flow. Be sure to check back often for more tips and advice in this and minimalist decorating and design.
