Maintaining A Healthy Weight

Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight can be a daunting task for some of us.

Despite the billions of dollars spent each year on weight loss diets and weight loss products, close to a third of the population are overweight.

The focus needs to shift for simply the number on the scale, to a focus and understanding of body composition. In other words, how much body fat are you carrying? How much lean muscle tissue do you have? You do not have to be a bulked up muscle head. But more lean muscle and less fat is key in helping to maintaining a healthy weight.

Healthy Lifestyles

maintaining a healthy lifestyle We also need to try and focus a bit less on our weight and more on living a healthy and active lifestyle. The person who does this

  • will feel more fit and flexible;
  • will feel healthy and energetic;
  • will be at lower risk for weight-related health problems.

Physical fitness and following a fitness nutrition plan are keys to a healthy lifestyle. Realizing and maintaining a healthy weight will prove to be easier and more rewarding when you have supportive relationships to help you along the way.

Healthy Weight Loss Tips

One of the best tips for healthy weight loss is to keep things simple. You are not going to lose all the weight in one week or even one month. Although in one month you can see some promising results. Here are some more healthy weight loss tips.

  • Eat small meals throughout the day
  • Have some quality protein with every meal.
  • Eat lots more vegetables. They fill you up, there are hardly any calories in vegetables, and are full of vitamins.
  • Drink lots of water through out the day. Drinking water and weight loss
  • Move more. Walk, bike, get some Beachbody videos, play a sport, walk the dog, dance in your living room, just MOVE!

Healthy Weight Calculator

The problem with so a called "healthy weight calculator", is that it is so general. Muscle is more dense than body fat, yet takes up less space. A healthy, fit person with a well proportioned physique may "weigh" more than the calculator says they should.

My lean mass for example(just muscle and bone) is probably around 180 pounds. Well that is more than the healthy weight calculator says I should weigh! Add on another 15 or 20 pounds of body fat and I am way over the "acceptable" healthy weight range.

Concentrate on living an active and healthy lifestyle. Move more, eat less. Drink lots of water. Stretch and do some resistance training(even just body weight exercises are good!)

These simple things will help you to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
