Are there really different types of responsibility? What is a definition of responsibility? How important is developing self awareness to your personal growth plans?
The state of being responsible, accountable, or answerable.
Responsibility to someone or for some activity.
Hmmm. Responsibility is being accountable and accountability is being responsible.
The media, educators and parents throw these words around all the time. Is anyone really listening?
Of course people know that they should be "more accountable for their actions" or that they should "take responsibility for their actions", but these things are usually only said after someone has been caught doing something that they should not have been doing.
Could we not sum this up by simply saying that we should just always strive to do the right thing?
As far as the types of responsibility, you will hear about personal responsibility, family responsibility and social responsibility. I am not suggesting that these different types of responsibility do not exist, but again for me it just comes down to doing the right thing no matter what the situation happens to be.
"Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is Enlightenment." - Tao Tzu
awareness of your own individuality: conscious knowledge of ones own character, feelings, motives and desires.
Developing self awareness means that you are starting to question the choices and decisions that you have made and are going to make.
You now have the freedom to make real changes in your life if this is what you desire to do. If you are not able to develop self awareness, any personal growth plan will fall short of your expectations. You will find yourself back in the same place as when you started your personal development journey.
It may be impossible to do the right thing if you cannot examine who you are. You will be influenced by others.
Let me ask you this. Who knows you better than anyone else?
You do.
And in order to create the life that you want, to make conscious decisions about your life you must be developing self awareness.
You should examine your personal core values and beliefs.
You should follow this up be asking yourself some self awareness questions. Who are you to the outside world? Is this the real you?
There may be different types of responsibility. And we must be accountable for our actions.
But it all really starts with our self awareness. As you grow in self awareness you will better understand why you feel what you feel and why you behave as you behave. And this will give you the empowerment needed to do the right thing in every situation.
